Popular Cosmetic Procedures As We Return Face To Face
Thanks to a successful vaccination program, things are now starting to slowly return to normal. We are now delighted to be welcoming back patients into the surgery for face-to-face appointments.
During lockdown, we saw an interesting change in the procedures being requested. Driven by an increase in Zoom video calls, patients were most concerned about changing their facial appearance. Now, as we return face to face, let’s look at some of the most popular cosmetic procedures patients are requesting and the reasons behind them.
Study reveals most common appearance concerns
A recent study published within the International Journal of Women’s Dermatology has revealed the top appearance concerns women have since the lockdown. Some of these concerns include:
- Weight gain – 37.11%
- Skin discolouration – 32.36%
- Wrinkles – 24.45%
- Acne – 14.85%
It’s no surprise weight gain was cited as the leading concern. During lockdown, a lot of people fell into unhealthy eating patterns and exercised less. This led to weight gain, which they may now be struggling to get off.
Interestingly, the study showed that a staggering 83% of women use filters when they post a picture of themselves to social media. Perhaps unsurprisingly, increased use of social media was shown to worsen self-perception.
Popular cosmetic procedures
In light of these common appearance concerns, clinics are seeing an increase in requests for certain cosmetic procedures.
For those worried about weight gain, liposuction may be seen as an ideal solution. However, it’s worth noting here that this is only ideal for those with stubborn pockets of fat. It is not a weight-loss treatment and cannot be used to remove large portions of fat. It is more of a contouring surgery, helping you to achieve a tighter, firmer look.
Scar revision surgery is also booming in popularity. This is a good option for those who have acne scarring, as well as those who have scars caused by trauma. It takes approximately 18 months for a scar to heal. The procedure aims to make the scar less noticeable, though there is a risk it could make it more prominent.
Anti-aging treatments are also popular, such as anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. The two are often used together to enhance results and knock years off your appearance.
