Nose Reshaping Surgery for Men
Nose reshaping surgery, or rhinoplasty, is more than just a procedure to modify the shape of your nose. It’s a transformative experience that can significantly boost your self-confidence and self-esteem, improve your looks, and resolve any breathing issues you may have.
In the latest report from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), rhinoplasty emerged as the most popular surgery among men in 2022, witnessing a staggering 45% increase from the previous year.
Here, you’ll learn everything you need to know about nose surgery for men including the benefits, how it is performed, and what to expect after the procedure.
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty or nose reshaping surgery can be performed in two ways. One approach involves a small incision across the skin between the nostrils, known as open rhinoplasty. The other involves minuscule cuts inside your nostrils, referred to as closed rhinoplasty. In the latter, the scars remain hidden, and there is typically less swelling.
The procedure can be used to address various issues. For instance, if your nostrils are asymmetrical or unusually flared, your surgeon can make precise adjustments, leaving minimal scarring concealed within the nostril crease. If you’re concerned about the nasal tip, they may reshape or remove the contributing cartilage through your nostril or a small incision in the area between your nostrils.
It could be that you have a hump on the bridge of your nose that bothers you. Here, your surgeon may remove or minimise the protruding bone and cartilage. If required, they might even break and realign your nose to create a slimmer appearance. In the case of a deviated or bent septum, the surgeon will straighten and re-centre the bone and cartilage.
These are just some of the things that can be fixed with rhinoplasty for men. So, what should you expect after the procedure?
After Nose Reshaping Surgery
Undergoing rhinoplasty isn’t as traumatic as you might think. Most patients experience minimal pain and slight discomfort after the procedure. You’ll need to wear a small plaster dressing, or splint, for about a week to ten days. This not only helps maintain the newly crafted shape of your nose, but also shields it from accidental knocks or bumps.
Roughly a week after your surgery, your surgeon will perform a wound check, with any necessary follow-ups arranged thereafter. While most of the sutures used will naturally dissolve over time, any that require removal will be organised during your post-operative appointment.
It’s crucial to understand that everyone’s recovery journey is unique, and healing rates can vary significantly. The above information offers a general guide to what you can expect during your recovery from nose reshaping surgery.
