More Younger Women Requesting Cosmetic Surgeries
Despite an uncertain economy, a new survey has found that women under the age of 45 are driving a spike in cosmetic surgeries. Carried out by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the survey polled its surgical members and found 30% of them had seen at least double the demand as before the pandemic.
So, which procedures are proving popular and why has the pandemic caused a rise in cosmetic surgery for the under 45’s?
The rise in post-lockdown cosmetic surgery
There are several reasons why demand for cosmetic surgery has risen after the pandemic. The lockdowns and new work from home culture have certainly helped to give women more time to recover after going under the knife.
People have also been saving money due to not going out or heading off on holidays. Many women are using the money they have saved to improve their look.
These are just a couple of reasons why cosmetic surgeries have seen a boom in patients since the pandemic. So which procedures are proving the most popular?
The cosmetic surgeries experiencing a boom in popularity
All types of cosmetic procedures have seen an increase in demand. However, the top three that stand out are liposuction, tummy tucks, and breast augmentation. Let’s look at these procedures in a little more depth…
Liposuction
Liposuction is an effective way of contouring the body. It is used to eliminate stubborn pockets of fat that won’t go away through diet and exercise alone. The fat is sucked out of the body, leaving the area instantly more defined.
While most patients return home the same day, you may need to stay in hospital overnight. The procedure can take up to three hours, and you will need to wear compression bandages to reduce swelling and bruising for several weeks.
Tummy tucks
A tummy tuck is an extensive procedure that aims to tighten and eliminate excess skin from the abdomen. A full tummy tuck creates a large incision across the abdomen, and a second incision to release the belly button. The skin is then separated from the abdominal wall and the muscles are realigned.
It can take up to five hours to complete, and the recovery takes anywhere from four to six weeks.
Breast augmentation
Breast augmentation adds volume to the breasts through the form of an implant. Newer techniques use fat transfer, where the patient’s fat is transferred from one part of the body to the breast. It is a common procedure that requires up to a couple of weeks off work.
