Is There Such A Thing As The Perfect Vulva?

The Perfect Vulva

Worried about how your vulva looks? According to new research from leading period-care brand, Callaly, almost one third of women aged 16-35 worry that their vulva appears abnormal. This has prompted a rise in labiaplasty procedures.

Now a new campaign launched by Callaly, aims to celebrate the different sizes and shapes of vulva. So here we’ll look at the new campaign and whether a labiaplasty is the right option for you.

Talking About The Perfect Vulva

Callaly’s new campaign ‘We Need to Talk About Vulvas’, aims to debunk the perfect vulva myth. The company enlisted the help of 10 everyday women to front the campaign. Each agreed to have a cast of their vulva created and shared publicly, to highlight the diversity of vulvas.

Alongside showing the different shapes and sizes of their vulvas, the women also shared their feelings about it. Talking about the effects the desire for the perfect vulva can have on women is important. And with more understanding and education on the diversity of vulvas, it could help to boost confidence and self-image.

What is a labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty aims to reduce the size of the vaginal lips, medically referred to as the labia minora. But the procedure is only carried out on those over the age of 18 to ensure the labia is fully developed.

Alongside altering the size of the lips, the surgeon can also change the shape to achieve a more desirable appearance. In addition, a labiaplasty is carried out as a day case, performed under general anaesthetic.

After any unwanted tissue has been removed, the edges of the labia will be sutured. The sutures are absorbable, so you won’t need to have them removed. You will also be given a long-acting anaesthetic, helping to reduce discomfort during recovery.

Is it right for me?

A labiaplasty isn’t right for everyone. But if the shape and size of your vulva is causing you significant distress, it can help to improve quality of life. Moreover, many women who undergo the procedure see an increase in their self-esteem and confidence.
