How Long Will My Cosmetic Surgery Last?
Prior to going under the knife, you’re likely to have a lot of questions. One thing you should know before you undergo any cosmetic surgery, is how long the results will last. This will help you to understand what to expect and whether future intervention will be required.
Here, you’ll discover how long you can expect cosmetic surgery to last depending upon the different procedures.
Facial procedures
There are lots of different facial procedures you can undergo to achieve a more aesthetically pleasing result. Non-invasive treatments have become especially popular, but the results are only temporary. On average, wrinkle smoothing injections last approximately four months in the first year of treatment and then six months thereafter in the following years. Dermal fillers can last between six to 18 months, depending on the individual, the products used and where it is injected. Typically, lip enhancement results last less long – six months on average – than the thicker fillers which are used in the cheeks and jaw/boney contouring and can last 12 to 18 months.
If you’re looking for longer-lasting results, a facelift usually lasts ten to 15 years. It produces the longest-lasting results of any anti-ageing facial treatment, particularly the SMAS facelift technique that targets the deeper soft tissues and muscular structure of the face.
Any facial rejuvenation procedure, whether that’s a brow lift or eyelid lift, cannot stop the effects of gravity which will continue to affect the skin and soft tissues of the face, but you can expect results to reset the ageing process by between five to ten years.
Body and breast procedures
So, you know facial procedures can last for at least a decade, but what about body procedures?
With a healthy lifestyle, the results of procedures such as a tummy tuck or liposuction can last a lifetime. Breast augmentation, on the other hand, typically requires repeat surgery in the future to replace the breast implants. This is very much dependent on the individual patient, though, as some will have no issues with their implants for many years and remain happy with their results. A breast lift or reduction can also produce lifetime results.
What affects cosmetic surgery results?
The timescales above are a general guideline. While most surgical procedures do last for a decade or more, this will depend upon numerous factors.
The skill of the surgeon will impact how long the results will last. Your lifestyle will also play a large role. For example, smoking, excessive sun exposure, lack of sleep/a stressful job, genetics and diet/lifestyle can all impact on the results of anti-ageing surgery.
It is really important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your surgeon. This will ensure your results last as long as possible.
