How Best to Prepare for Liposuction
Liposuction can be a really effective way of eliminating stubborn pockets of fat. However, results can differ between patients.
Did you know there are some things you can do to prepare for the procedure in order to achieve the best results? Below, you’ll discover some of the best ways to prepare for a liposuction procedure in order to get the results you’re looking for.
#1 Try and reach your goal weight
The mistake is to see liposuction as a weight loss procedure. This is particularly true now as liposuction techniques and technology has evolved, meaning cosmetic surgeons are able to sculpt the body, removing small pockets of fat that haven’t shifted through diet and exercise alone.
To achieve best results, therefore, it’s important to be at or near your ideal weight. If you are overweight, you aren’t going to see much in the way of results due to how little fat the procedure removes.
#2 Ensure you’re following a healthy lifestyle
Similarly, you’ll want to make sure you are already following a healthy lifestyle before the procedure. This means ensuring you are getting enough exercise and eating healthily. If you’re following a healthy lifestyle already, you’ll find it much easier to maintain results. Remember, liposuction isn’t a replacement for a healthy lifestyle.
A high protein diet, vitamin C, multivitamins and minerals (Zinc and Iron) all aid recovery.
#3 Quit smoking
If you smoke, you’re going to want to quit before the procedure. This is because it has been proven that smoking increases the risks and complications of surgery. So, if you want to minimise the risks, quitting smoking at least two weeks before having liposuction is recommended.
#4 Things to avoid
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, e.g. Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Voltarol, should be avoided for two weeks before and after surgery as they increase bruising by interfering with blood clotting.
#5 Get your home prepared
Although liposuction requires very little downtime, you’ll still need to rest up for a few days. So, before you have the procedure, it’s a good idea to get the home ready for your return. Make sure it’s clean and everything you’ll need is within easy reach. Also, make sure you have easy, yet healthy meals available, so you won’t have to spend much time in the kitchen.
