FACIAL FILLERS
Wrinkles and deep folds in the skin are a common, yet depressing sign of ageing. However, there are treatments available that can help you get back your youthful appearance. Facial fillers are one of the most popular anti-ageing cosmetic procedures chosen by patients to regain more youthful facial contours.
Am I a suitable candidate for facial fillers?
Temporary dermal fillers use a hyaluronic acid gel to replace lost volume. As we age we lose volume and this can result in a flattening of the cheeks and folds appearing between the nose and mouth and loss of definition in the lower face. Minimally invasive, they are injected into the affected area and they work by filling out the wrinkles, while making the skin appear much smoother.
Facial fillers are also used to hydrate the skin and add volume to the face. All areas can be treated, but the mid-face tends to be the most common targeted area. If you suffer from facial scarring, facial fillers can also potentially help to minimise the appearance of the scars.
What facial fillers are available?
Facial fillers are often confused with Anti-Wrinkle Injections. However, they work in a different way and are actually often used in conjunction with Anti-Wrinkle Injections injections to leave a fully rejuvenated appearance.
Mr Paul Tulley only uses the leading dermal filler brands which include Juvederm and Restylane. Both use hyaluronic acid which is actually a substance naturally found within the skin. The results of these injections will last around six to twelve months, before the product is safely broken down by the body.
These filler brands also contain a local anaesthetic, though a separate topical cream based local anaesthetic is also used prior to the injections. This ensures the procedure is as pain-free as possible. Some patients may also have a dental local anaesthetic.
What are the alternatives to facial fillers?
While facial fillers are extremely effective, there may be other procedures that are better suited to your needs. For example, a facelift or brow lift could give you longer-lasting results.
An increasingly popular alternative to facial fillers is fat transfer. Mr Tulley will utilise your own fat, harvested from elsewhere on the body, to fill lines and folds and restore volume. This procedure has been used for many years, but improvements in technology and technique has made results more predictable. It is often preferred because it produces a totally natural rejuvenation, with much longer-lasting results.
Other facial rejuvenation procedures:
- Anti-Wrinkle Injections and Dysport
- Facelift
- Endoscopic brow lift
- Blepharoplasty (eyelid lift)
- Neck lift including platysmaplasty
- Fat grafting to the face
