Consultant Anaesthetist

Dr Claire Edkins is a Consultant Anaesthetist practising in the NHS at Frimley Health Foundation Trust and privately in Surrey. Claire graduated from Southampton Medical School in 1992, gained valuable experience in hospital medicine in the Wessex Region, and then travelled extensively, working in Perth, Australia before returning to complete her anaesthetic training in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery. She became a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 1997 and joined the team of Consultants at Frimley Hospital in 2002.

She specialises in all aspects of anaesthesia for surgery, in particular plastic and reconstructive surgery and also obstetric and vascular surgery. She is passionate about excellent patient care throughout the patient’s journey, encompassing pre-operative reassurance and planning the anaesthetic to meet the individual’s needs.

Claire considers excellent pain relief a priority and this is matched with premium care and safety throughout anaesthesia.

When she is not in the operating theatre, Claire is enthusiastic about teaching junior doctors and is part of the interviewing team for anaesthetists in training in London and the South. In her leisure time she enjoys spending time with her family and walking her dog in the Surrey Hills.
